THE DOUDOU CISSOKO TRIO - In Concert

20.00 (WAW)

Doudou Cissoko is one of the new generation of kora virtuosi (the 21 stringed African harp-lute!) Doudou, who has now settled in France, started to compose at the age of 14. As a singer-songwriter he continues his family tradition (the Cissokos are all celebrated Senagalese griots), but also brings western influences into his soothing, beautiful and very accessible music. Singing in ‘Mandinka’ and ‘Wolof’ (Senegal’s main languages), Doudou’s voice brims simultaneously with youthful vigour and timeless wisdom – and he has huge charisma!

Doudou Cissoko’s kora (which he made himself) and superb vocals are backed by the percussion of Alicia Davies (Badejo Dance Co, Seckou Keita, Jalirafunta) and the cello of Jenny Adejayan (Antonio Forcione).

The show is in two parts; in the first half, the music is more meditative and quiet and then towards the end of the second half, the band plays up-tempo music so people can join in, dance if they wish & sing along to choruses.

Box Office: (01905) 21095

Tickets: £8.00 (£6.00 concessions)

Family Ticket: £23.00 (2 adults & 2 children under 16)
