New, One Off and Taster Sessions

Futureproof Event
Funded by Arts Council

How can artists, curators and educators exploit the potential of the digital age to enhance opportunities for engagement and learning? How can we futureproof capacities of our organisations to make a difference in the lives of the people and communities we serve? What are the skills and literacies do artists, curators and educators need to ensure our work is ready to engage with the demands of the connected world? Futureproof is a new initiative by C&T and funded by The Arts Council, that offers the chance for arts professionals, researchers, community activists and educators to come together in common space to explore these challenges and experiment with potential strategies to address them. Futureproof is a full day event that creates synergies between three strands of enquiry: A common space for sharing of knowledge, need and aspiration Hands on opportunities to use the latest digital tech and software The chance to build prototype digital learning materials through a process of collaboration and participatory design. At the centre of the Futureproof process is Prospero, a new web-based software which allows for the experimental design and implantation of creative, digital kinaesthetic learning materials. Participants will be use Prospero throughout the day to playfully explore the issues, questions and challenges that they face in their practice and working contexts. Futureproof is an opportunity to explore the potential of digital for you and your organisations practices and share learning. This one day event would normally cost £100 per person but thanks to funding from the Arts Council we are able to offer at least 10 places for just a £10 contribution.

Working with Young People with Learning Disabilities
Training Course led by Richard Hayhow, Director, Open Theatre

We are offering a 2-day training opportunity for up to 20 arts practitioners, artists and teachers who want to extend and adapt their practice to be more inclusive of young people with learning disabilities. The two-day training course will involve an exploration of the theatre methodology developed by Open Theatre over a period of 25 years of working with adults and young people with learning disabilities and of its application within special schools. The key elements of this methodology are as follows: • It is essentially interactive, non-verbal, physical and music-led • It places the creativity of people with learning disabilities at the heart of the process • It has significant impact on children and young people’s learning within the school curriculum • It develops the skills, abilities and qualities that these young people need to survive and thrive as they make the transition into adulthood • It creates performance work on the borderlines of theatre, dance and mime, physical theatre at its best – a new kind of aesthetics. • It trains people with learning disabilities as performers of professional standard The two day training course will develop an understanding of and skills in this way of working through apportioning the time roughly as follows: one and a half days of practical work; a half-day of discussion and analysis of the theoretical base of the work: an hour and a half session working with a group of young people from Regency special school. The format for the two days’ work will be roughly as follows: Day One: practical and theoretical session in developing skills in the theatre methodology. There will also be an opportunity to stay on and take part in the Monday Night Club which runs from… Day Two: practical and theoretical session in developing skills in the application of the methodology in special schools, hands-on experience of working with young people with learning disabilities, discussion around how to plan sessions

Kick Start Your Creativity Workshop
with Claire Hilton

Kick start your creativity is a workshop designed to simplify getting started with the act of making and break down your creative block. This one off workshop will be looking at simple exercises that can be done in a snap as well as ways you can nurture and experiment with your own interests and ideas outside the session. Its often difficult to find time to nurture your inner creative in our busy lives. We often make excuses for not doing creative things - We don't have the materials or the time to make this a reality. Materials don't need to be expensive (or even specialist) to get creative and give you some new ideas to get going again. Maybe you have done creative activities before and stopped? Do you really want to reintroduce creativity to your life? Maybe you have always wanted to try something creative and never given yourself the chance? No previous experience required and come as you are approach. Just come along with an open mind and willing to give it a go.

.

When: Saturday 1st June 2019.
Time:11am -1pm
Price:£12
